Jumpsuits, Jet Lag & Jesus

“Why did I wear this jumpsuit?” I asked myself as I stared at rain pouring down on the tarmac and lightening streaming through the sky like 10 million heavenly firecrackers  going off.

It was supposed to be a simple 1 hour and 15 minute flight. A quick hop, not a marathon. But thanks to the bad weather, we were grounded on the tarmac with delay after delay… after delay.

Now let me paint the scene for you:

This was not one of those jumbo jets that make you feel like you’re flying in a floating hotel. No, no. This was a tight four-seat-per-row aircraft. The kind where you could easily smell your neighbor’s deodorant.

Add to that: an extra cup of coffee I clearly didn’t need.

Add to that: a jumpsuit. One. Piece. Clothing. No easy access.

My bladder began filing complaints to upper management (a.k.a. my brain), and I knew I had to make a move before we hit DEFCON 1. But all I could think was, “How am I going to Houdini my way out of this outfit in a bathroom the size of a broom closet?”

But when I finally made my way to the restroom, mentally prepping for a wrestling match, I opened the door and paused. Wait… what?

The bathroom was huge. I mean jumbo jet big. There was room to turn around without knocking elbows, and I successfully completed my mission without pulling a hamstring or asking a stranger for help with the zipper.

That’s when it hit me: just because storms are present doesn’t mean suffering is guaranteed.

The aircraft was small. The delays were real. The jumpsuit was still a jumpsuit. But even in the tight space, there was unexpected room. And that’s just like our God.

Sometimes we look at our surroundings and assume we’re doomed to discomfort. But God has a way of making room in places that look cramped. He gives grace for growth, even in the middle of restriction. He brings peace in turbulence and blessing in dry places.

Just like Isaac, who sowed in a land of famine and reaped a hundredfold (Genesis 26:12), God will show you favor even when the market’s down, the doors are closed, and your circumstances are delayed.

So take heart, friend. Don’t expect the worst just because the weather’s rough. God is still God. Trust Him to give you room to grow and glow, even in jumpsuits, delays, and tight spaces.

Meditation Scripture:

“Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him.” – Genesis 26:12 (NIV)

Prayer:

Father, thank You for being the God of surprises. Thank You that delays don’t cancel destiny, and tight spaces don’t restrict Your blessing. Remind me not to expect the worst just because storms are visible. Help me trust You to make room where there seems to be none. Help me keep the faith, even when I’m stuck in jumpsuits and turbulence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where in your life have you assumed there won’t be enough room, support, or favor, just because things look “too small” right now?
  2. How can you shift your mindset to expect God’s provision even in the middle of inconvenience or discomfort?
