Luke 13:32 (NIV):
He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’”
Alright, this verse? Jesus was not playing. He handled that situation with some righteous confidence.
When some Pharisees came to warn Jesus that Herod Antipas was out to get Him, Jesus didn’t flinch, didn’t panic, and didn’t say, “Let’s pause for a prayer circle.” Nope. He clapped back with, “Go tell that fox…”
Let’s break that down:
Jesus wasn’t calling Herod cute. In Jewish culture, a fox symbolized someone sly, cunning, and ultimately insignificant. Jesus was basically saying, “This guy’s sneaky, but he’s not stopping what God started.”
But don’t miss this: Herod was dangerous. This is the same ruler who was responsible for John the Baptist’s death. He had power and a history of using it in cruel ways. Yet Jesus still said, “I’ve got work to do—and I’m not stopping.” He had miracles to perform, people to heal, and a mission to complete. He was focused, fearless, and firm.
But here’s the lesson: Don’t let a fox stop your forward motion.
Jesus didn’t entertain threats or feed fear. He didn’t let a sly little ruler with a reputation knock Him off purpose. He had a mission—and He was on a timeline. Likewise, you’ve got work to do. People to impact. Purpose to fulfill.
Your “fox” might look like:
But do what Jesus did: keep it moving.
Look that fox in the face (respectfully, of course) and say:
“I’m booked, blessed, and busy with Kingdom business.”
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for showing us how to face threats and distractions with courage. Help me to recognize the “foxes” in my life—and to keep moving forward with confidence, knowing my purpose is secure in You. Today, tomorrow, and the next day—I will keep going. Because I’ve got Kingdom work to do. In Your name I pray, Amen.
