Today I witnessed the sacred, anointed, highly organized production line of Krispy Kreme donuts.
Everything was flowing in divine order: cut, drop, fry, flip, glaze. Honestly, it felt like I was watching donuts live out their God-given purpose with more clarity than most humans.
I was in awe.
So naturally, I pulled out my phone to capture the moment… because if it’s not on camera, did it even happen?
And then, chaos.
One donut said, “Not today.”
While every other donut stayed in formation like a well-trained choir, this one slipped off course. It dodged the system. It disrupted the flow. It basically said, “I know the process, but I have…questions.”
And I couldn’t stop watching it.
Because somehow, the most memorable donut in the entire building…
was the one that didn’t follow the script.
Isn’t that just like us?
We love a good plan. A neat timeline. A step-by-step “glory to glory” journey with no detours, delays, or unexpected plot twists. We want to be the perfectly glazed donut; shiny, presentable, and right on schedule.
But then life happens…
You lose the job.
The plan shifts.
The timing feels off.
And suddenly you feel like… the dodging donut.
Out of place. Off track. Slightly crispy in areas you didn’t ask for.
But what if that “off course” moment isn’t failure?
What if it’s divine redirection?
Because according to Proverbs 19:21, you can have all the plans, but God’s purpose is the one that actually stands.
That donut didn’t ruin the process… it revealed something.
Sometimes God allows us to step outside of the expected flow, not to lose us, but to position us differently. To get our attention. To remind us that we are not mass-produced, we are purposefully placed.
So if life feels a little off-script right now…
If you feel like the one that “got away”…
Take heart.
You’re not lost.
You’re just being led differently.
And let’s be honest, you’re still sweet, still chosen, and still covered in grace. (Even if the glaze looks a little uneven right now.)
Reflection
Where in your life do you feel “off track” right now?
Could this be a moment of redirection rather than disruption?
What might God be trying to show you outside of your original plan?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You that even when my plans don’t go as expected, Your purpose still stands firm. When I feel out of alignment, remind me that I am not out of Your will. Help me to trust You in the detours, the delays, and even the moments that feel like I’ve slipped through the cracks.
Give me peace in the process and faith to believe that You are positioning me exactly where I need to be. And Lord… even when I feel like the dodging donut, remind me that I am still chosen, still loved, and still covered in Your grace.
In your name I pray Jesus, Amen.
