Lately, I have become fascinated with birds. Not the majestic eagle soaring through the skies or the colorful parrot showing off for attention. I’m talking about one bird that looks like an accountant by day and a black-belt ninja by night. That is the Secretary Bird.
At first glance, there is nothing intimidating about it. It looks like it should be carrying a briefcase, updating spreadsheets, and reminding everyone about the 2:00 PM meeting. Long legs. Feathered hair. Calm demeanor. Completely unassuming.
Until a snake shows up.
Then this bird transforms into what I can only describe as “Konfu Bird.”
The Secretary Bird is the karate master of the bird kingdom. When it encounters a snake, it doesn’t run, panic, or post about its problem on social media. It opens its wings, almost as if it’s saying, “Go ahead. Make your move.”
The snake hisses. The snake coils. The snake prepares to strike.
And then…
WHAM!
The Secretary Bird unleashes a kick so powerful it can crush the snake’s skull. One moment it looks like a bird you could borrow office supplies from; the next moment it is serving flying eviction notices to serpents.
That got me thinking about believers.
Many of us look ordinary on the outside. We don’t always feel powerful. We may not see ourselves as warriors. Yet God has placed within us a strength the enemy often underestimates.
Too often we spend our time running from the very things God has already given us authority over. We fear the snakes of doubt, anxiety, discouragement, rejection, and temptation. But God never intended for His children to live intimidated by the enemy’s hiss.
Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God strengthens our feet for battle.
“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He enables me to tread on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:19
God doesn’t merely remove every snake from our path. Sometimes He strengthens our feet so we can stand firm and overcome what comes against us.
The enemy would love for us to believe we are powerless. But through Christ, we have been given authority, strength, and spiritual stability. The same God who equipped the Secretary Bird with powerful feet has equipped His children with spiritual strength to crush every lie, fear, and scheme of the enemy.
The next time a snake of discouragement starts hissing in your ear, remember the Konfu Bird. You may look harmless, but by God’s power, you’re carrying more authority than the enemy realizes.
The enemy keeps mistaking God’s children for pigeons when God trained us to be Secretary Birds.
Some people see a bird.
The snake sees a problem.
Today, stop acting like prey and start walking like you know Who made your feet.
Prayer
Father, thank You for strengthening our feet for every battle we face. When fear, doubt, discouragement, and opposition rise up against us, remind us that You have already equipped us to stand firm. Help us walk confidently in the authority You have given us through Christ. Teach us to trust Your strength instead of our own and to confront every attack of the enemy with faith and courage. When the serpent hisses, help us remember that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Make us steadfast, fearless, and victorious in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
