"The Printer Parable: When Patience Teaches Us That It Will All Work Out"

Let me be transparent for a moment: your girl is not the poster child for patience. If waiting were an Olympic sport, I’d be cheering from the stands, not competing. So when my printer decided to go on strike the other morning, it was basically a showdown between my faith and my flesh.

I unplugged the printer.

Plugged it back in.

Restarted my phone.

Rebooted the WiFi.

Unplugged the printer again, just in case it needed a second chance at life.

Nothing.

Silence.

The printer had gone MIA like it needed a personal day.

Two hours later, I gave up. I walked away and immediately started planning who I could beg to print the document because I needed this done. My spirit kept nudging me, “Go do something else.” So reluctantly, and I do mean reluctantly, I made breakfast.

An hour later, after eating, the Holy Spirit whispered, “Now try.”

I opened the document, clicked print, and out of nowhere the printer popped up like, “Oh, hey girl, you still need this?” and printed immediately.

Right there, the Holy Spirit gave me one of those quiet, convicting patience talks:

“Shyann… why do things have to happen when you’re ready? Why not trust Me to fix it? Look what happened when you stepped away and let Me handle it.”

Whew. Gut punch.

Because the truth is: when things don’t work on our timeline, we assume they’re broken. We force solutions, panic-plan, and reroute God’s process like we’re the director of heaven’s operations team. But sometimes, God just needs us to step back, breathe, and let Him work behind the scenes, just like that printer warming itself up for its revival moment.

Patience isn’t passive. It’s permission…

Permission for God to move.

Permission for our hearts to calm.

Permission for solutions to form without our frantic interference.

And honestly? Sometimes the miracle only prints once we stop pressing the button.

📖 Scripture Focus

Psalm 37:7 (NIV):

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”

Isaiah 64:4 (NIV):

“No eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.”

Prayer

Father, thank You for caring about even the little frustrations of my day. Help me to slow down, breathe, and trust that You are always working, even when I can’t see it and especially when I can’t control it. Teach me to be patient, to listen for Your timing, and to step aside so You can step in. Give me grace to wait well and peace while I do it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Question

Where in your life might God be saying, “Step back and let Me handle it,” and what “printer” do you need to stop pressing so He can finally fix it?
