If there’s one thing I avoid like expired milk, it’s driving to Miami. 🥴
So I do what any reasonable woman of faith would do: I schedule my daughter’s appointments only when my husband is available. Order. Structure. Wisdom.
Or so I thought.
A few days before the appointment, I got the text:
“The doctor will be on vacation. Your appointment has been rescheduled.” 😳
Now getting an appointment with this doctor is like getting a sit-down with the President. So canceling wasn’t an option.
Plan B kicked in. I called a friend.
“Yes, of course, Shy!”
Immediate relief.
Until the morning of the appointment.
“I’m so sorry, I can’t make it.”
Cue the panic.
No backup plan. Just me, my car, and Jesus. I put on my big-girl ‘clothes’ 😉, grabbed my keys, and right before I walked out, my friend sent me a scripture:
“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”
Proverbs 21:30 (NIV)
I read it. Took a breath. And headed out.
I put the address in my GPS and hit the highway. Cars were flying past me like I was standing still, my nerves were on edge, and then I noticed something that made my heart drop.
My GPS display on the car was upside down.
And right on cue… I missed my exit.
I quickly grabbed my phone, re-entered the address, and watched the screen calmly say:
Head down town Miami.
That’s when God got my attention.
Even though I had to take highways I never planned for, the ride was smooth. No chaos. No delay. I arrived right on time.
And God whispered something that felt uncomfortably familiar:
So many of us are living life with an upside-down GPS.
We’re moving, but in the opposite direction of what God told us.
We’re planning, but without alignment.
We’re confident, yet off course.
We think we’re avoiding “stale milk,” when in reality we’re ignoring God’s direction.
And here’s the truth:
No amount of wisdom, insight, or planning can override God’s will. When our lives are flipped upside down, God doesn’t panic, He recalculates. But peace only comes when we turn the right way up.
Sometimes the issue isn’t the detour.
It’s the direction.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for loving me enough to stop me when I’m headed the wrong way. Flip my heart right-side up when my plans are upside down. I surrender my wisdom, my insight, and my plans to You. Help me trust Your direction, knowing You will always get me where I need to be, right on time.
In your name Jesus we pray, Amen.
Reflection Question
Where in your life might your GPS be upside down, moving confidently but opposite of what God has already shown you?
