During my morning devotion, while reading Gospel of John 15:5, I had a very honest moment with God.
I said, “Lord… I’m abiding. So… where is my MUCH fruit?” 👀
Because let’s be real, if the Word says much fruit, I’m expecting evidence.
Something visible. Tangible. Preferably with a little sparkle on it.
But instead… it felt like nothing was happening.
Then, in that moment, I saw a healthy tree, full of life, strong, grounded… but with no fruit on it.
And that’s when the revelation came:
A tree is either bearing fruit or preparing to bear fruit.
It is never doing nothing.
Even when you don’t see fruit, something is happening:
In other words… capacity is being developed. And here’s the part that made me laugh a little:
We ask God for much fruit…
But we don’t always have the capacity for much fruit. 😅
Because “much fruit” isn’t just about receiving, it’s about sustaining.
It’s one thing to get the blessing.
It’s another thing to hold it, steward it, and not fumble it under pressure.
So while I was looking for fruit, God was building capacity.
While I was expecting results, God was reinforcing roots.
Because fruit without capacity doesn’t last.
Let’s be honest, some of us said:
“Lord, increase me!”
And God said,
“I will… but first, let’s increase your capacity so you can carry the weight of the abundant blessing.”
So this season that feels quiet?
This space where you don’t see “much fruit”?
It’s not a contradiction of the promise.
It’s preparation for it.
You’re not just abiding…
You’re being built.
Prayer:
“Father, thank You for Your Word and for reminding me that abiding in You is never wasted. Even when I don’t see fruit, You are working within me, building my capacity, strengthening my roots, and preparing me for more. Help me to trust Your process and not rush Your timing. Teach me to steward what You are developing in me so I can sustain what You release through me. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Reflection:
Have you been measuring your life by visible fruit, while God has been focused on building your capacity?
What if the “delay” you feel is actually God ensuring you can sustain the “much” you’ve been praying for?
Scripture:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…” Gospel of John 15:5
